Storing
- Wrap, don't hang. Fold along the natural creases and wrap in soft mulmul cotton. Never on metal hangers — zari snags, pleats lose memory.
- Refold every 3 months. Heavy zari on the same crease for years will eventually cut the silk. A gentle shift in fold lines distributes wear.
- Breathe. Avoid plastic covers. Cotton or muslin pouches let the silk breathe and prevent yellowing.
Cleaning
- Dry-clean only for silks, Kanjeevarams, Banarasis, organzas, and anything with zari or hand-embroidery.
- First wash → dry-cleaner only. Never machine wash on the first wear. Once a professional has handled it once, you'll know the right care for that specific weave.
- Linen and cottons may be hand-washed in cold water with a mild detergent. Never wring; press gently between two towels.
- Stains: blot, never rub. Reach out on WhatsApp — we'll point you to the right local atelier in your city if you need a stain treated quickly.
Wearing
- Perfume and deodorant first, drape after. Spray on skin, let it dry, then drape. Direct contact dulls zari and stains pure silk.
- Air it after wearing. An hour on a soft hanger before refolding lets the fibres settle and any moisture from the body evaporate.
- Sit on a soft chair. Velvet, leather, even rough wood can pluck threads from delicate weaves over a long evening.
Long-term
- Sun rotation. Once a year, hang in indirect morning light for 30 minutes. Kills mildew without fading.
- Silver papers in fold. A small piece of acid-free tissue between heavy zari folds prevents the gold thread from oxidising on contact.
- Keep the receipt. If the piece is BFP-stitched, the matching blouse may need letting-in or letting-out — message us with the order number and we'll arrange it.
